Exceptional Children staff: Kelsey Goss - EC teacher 236-9441 ext 467
I began teaching in 1997 in Brooklyn, New York. I received my BA from Wesleyan University and my MS in Special Education from Bank Street College. In addition to my experience as a special education teacher, I have experience as a general education teacher and reading specialist. I moved to Asheville in 2007 and began teaching at FDNSC in 2008.
Nathan Zumwalt
A graduate of Rice University, I
began teaching in 2004 with Project SOAR. I taught
academics while students traveled the coastline of the Southeastern US
and Belize. In 2006, I taught at a day treatment program
for struggling adolescents, and was subsequently hired to create and run
an academic curriculum at Eliada Homes for Children. The
successful program became a model for four additional facilities,
blending treatment with highly individualized academics. In 2008 Eliada
received SACCS accreditation, and I began a volunteer project connecting
talents from the community with troubled youth. Mathematics
became my primary subject, teaching 6th grade through
Geometry. In 2009, I started the alternative placement
classroom at Francine Delany, supporting the middle school grades.
In 2010, I will be offering Algebra1 to our 8th
grade, floating rivers, and climbing rocks. I am happy to
be part of the supportive community here at FDNSC.
